Ashby's Adventure Trails and Treks organises and leads several running courses from the War Memorial Park in Coventry. We're a friendly group and anyone is welcome to join any of our courses. However, it's best to join the course that matches your current running ability to get maximum enjoyment and benefit, and to reduce the risk of injury. If you’re not sure about the best running course for you, we will explain the differences to help you decide.
If you have any questions at all, please get in touch. Please note, all of our runs are meant to be fun, and beneficial for both mental and physical health.
Now, first things first.
Who Will Lead the Run?
Dean is our run leader. He's a qualified run leader, competent first aider, manager, and ultra-marathon runner. For the 0 to 5km running course, Dean will be supported by Nikki, also a qualified run leader and ultra-marathon runner, and other volunteer run leaders.
Our 0 to 5km Running Course - for complete beginners
Our 0 to 5km course is for anyone over the age of 12, no matter your level of fitness. If you’ve always wondered whether you could run - and enjoy it - now is the time to find out!
You don’t need to worry if you think you will be slow or you will struggle. However, if you are concerned about how you will feel, just sign up for week one and see how you get on. We are friendly, non-judgemental, approachable, and welcoming.
This is how it works.
We meet at 6.30 in the War Memorial Park, Coventry.
After a warm-up, you’ll start off walking. Then we’ll gradually introduce short periods of gentle running.
Each week, we extend the period of time you are running.
The idea is that you complete ‘homework’ runs in between the weekly sessions. If you do, by the end of the six-week course, you’ll be able to run for 30 minutes or a distance of around 5km. If you can’t complete the homework runs every week, please don’t worry. It’s meant to be fun not a chore.
However, we do recommend that you sign up for the six weeks and attend each week to get the maximum benefit from the course. And if you can run between times, you’ll do even better!

Wednesday Group: 5 to 10km - for those that can run 5km
If you can already run 5km, we would love for you to join us on a Wednesday run. We meet at 6.30pm at the War Memorial Park in Coventry. Each week is different and the distance varies up to about 10km. When the weather and conditions permit, we like to run outside the park, and we know some lovely routes to get you away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
For our Wednesday runs, we ask that you can already run 5km in around 30 to 35 minutes.
Also during our Wednesday sessions, we look at running technique, and work on exercises to strengthen our core and fitness.
You can find out more and sign up for a Wednesday run here.
Sunday Runs: 10 to 30km - for competent runners who want to increase their distance
If you’re aiming for a half marathon, marathon, or even an ultra, you can join us on a Sunday for a longer distance. We meet at 8.15 am in the Memorial Park, Coventry, so your run is completed in time for you to enjoy the rest of your Sunday! Find out more and sign up for a longer run here.
