Seasons greetings and welcome to our Christmas newsletter. This newsletter will tell you what lies ahead in 2023, what to expect from our courses and events….and why you should sign up to run or walk with us.
Right, let’s get into it!
Theres a lot of courses starting after Christmas, and we’ve got plenty of exciting plans for next year.
0 to 5km Running Course for Beginners
Our next couch to 5km course starts on 3 January 2023.
We’re really looking forward to welcoming all those who want to start the New Year with good intentions! Please tell anyone who might be interested about our couch to 5k course in Coventry War Memorial Park on a Tuesday night.
What makes AATTs different is that we get it; running is tough. Turning out on a cold, dark January night takes willpower and mental strength. But the benefits really will be worth it. We’ll be there every step of the way to encourage participants to complete the course and keep on running even when the course is finished.
Remember, you’re far more likely to turn up every week, push yourself a bit harder, complete the course, and carry on running if you join a group with like-minded individuals and the support of people who know exactly how you feel.
Sign up for the first 0 to 5k course of 2023 here.
Or, if that date doesn’t suit you, check our Events and Activities page to see the other dates for the course in 2023. The course will be running throughout the year.
Wednesday Training Runs
Wednesday runs will be about continuing to push yourself from 5km to 10km and beyond
We’ll be further building on core strength and incorporating exercises such as hill runs, laps, and sprints to develop fitness and running technique.
You can sign up for as many Wednesday running sessions as you like via our website’s Events and Activities page. Just scroll down and click on the box that corresponds to the dates you want to join us and you’ll be redirected to the booking page.
When we get into spring, we’ll be back out on the trails and enjoying the countryside. For now though, we meet at 6.30 on a Wednesday in the War Memorial Park, Coventry.
Please feel free to invite others to join us on a Wednesday, but we do ask that they can run 5km without stopping.
Sunday Runs to 30km
Sunday runs are for 10 to 30km and are aimed at those training for events including half marathons and ultra marathons. However, anyone is welcome to join us. If you feel a bit daunted by the thought of running longer distances with strong runners, you might like to know that I’m planning on scheduling a run of 10 to 12km every six weeks specifically for runners that are a little apprehensive about the longer distances.
If you want to push yourself beyond 10km, but would prefer to take it a bit slower, these runs will be ideal for you. Look out for more details; I’ll be posting these runs on Facebook and in our WhatsApp group.
Mountain Climbs for 2023
We’ve really enjoyed taking people up mountains including Cadair Idris, Snowdon, Tryfan and the Devil’s Kitchen this year. I am planning on more mountain climbs in 2023, especially Cadair again. We’re also looking at adding the famous Pen Y Fan to the adventure. However, I will always put safety first, so mountain climbs are always subject to the weather conditions on the day, as well as other contributing factors.
Keep an eye out for mountain climb events and if you see something you or someone you know is interested in, get in touch. We can then have a chat about whether the event is right for you/them.
Hikes and Overnight Stays
We’re planning spring a walking event in the New Forest, an area in southern England rich in heathland and forest trails. Not only is The New Forest a beautiful place to explore, it’s only about 140 miles away from Coventry, and it’s easy to get to. The hike will be around 20km, so you will need to be fit and up for a challenge if you want to join us. We’ll stop overnight at a youth hostel so we can relax, unwind, and enjoy some good food.
I’ll keep you posted on dates, but it will be probably be around 18 March.
Events Next Year
Coventry Way 2 April 2023
On 2 April 2023, a few of us will be taking part in A Coventry Way Challenge, or The Cyril Bean Annual Event. An ultramarathon is a race of a distance beyond the standard marathon distance of 26.2 miles (42km). The Coventry Way Challenge is a 40 mile countryside route circumnavigating the city of Coventry. It starts and finishes at the Heart of England Social Club in Meriden.
Fancy it? The event is fully subscribed, but there is a waiting list if you’re interested in joining us. There are five checkpoints along the way and a meal at the finish. How long will it take us? Well, the fastest time in 2022 was 6.25, with some participants completing it in over 14 hours. So we’re hoping for a time of around 9hrs.
Krav Maga Martial Art Session
We will also be holding a Krav Maga session. Krav Maga is an Israeli martial art developed for the Israel defence forces. It’s very effective for real world situations and an invaluable skill for self defence.
We also have a number of other events in 2023:
Warwick Half Marathon
Cannock Forest Series 10k
Big Sea Swanage Ultra Marathon
Details to follow.
Well, that’s all for now. Check out our website for more info on our courses, email me, or give me a call.
And, have a fantastic Christmas and New Year with your loved ones.
